Delhi Traffic Advisory for Gurpurab on November 4: Key Routes to Be Affected

In anticipation of heavy public participation in the Nagar Kirtan organized on the occasion of Prakash Gurpurab, the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first guru of Sikhism, the Delhi Traffic Police (DTP) has issued an important travel advisory for commuters in the national capital. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, November 4, 2025, and is expected to draw large crowds along its procession route, leading to significant traffic disruptions across central Delhi.

Nagar Kirtan Route

The Nagar Kirtan (Shobha Yatra) will commence from Bhai Mati Dass Chowk, Chandni Chowk at around 10:00 AM. From there, the procession will make its way through several key locations in central Delhi before culminating at Gurdwara Nanak Piao Sahib on GT Karnal Road. The full route includes:

  • Fatehpuri
  • Naya Bazaar Chowk
  • Peeli Kothi
  • Pul Mithai
  • Azad Market
  • Roshanara Road
  • Ghanta Ghar Baoli
  • Ghar Chowk
  • Shakti Nagar Chowk

The event is expected to continue until approximately 9:00 PM, with devotees participating in religious singing, prayers, and other ceremonial activities along the route.

Traffic Restrictions

To ensure the smooth conduct of the Nagar Kirtan and the safety of participants, the Delhi Traffic Police has announced that traffic restrictions will be imposed on multiple stretches, primarily in the central range area. The affected roads include:

  • SP Mukherji Road
  • Azad Market Road
  • Ghanta Ghar Chowk
  • Roshanara Road
  • Lala Jagan Nath Marg
  • Pul Mithai

Commuters are advised to avoid these roads and surrounding areas during the procession hours. Vehicles may face delays and detours due to the heavy footfall anticipated along the entire route.

Traffic Diversions

In addition to restrictions, several traffic diversions have been planned to manage congestion:

  • Barafkhana Chowk: Traffic heading toward Roshanara Road will be restricted and diverted toward Rani Jhansi Flyover and Lala Jagan Nath Marg.
  • Ghanta Ghar Chowk: Vehicles will not be allowed toward Roshanara Road and will instead be diverted onto Lala Jagan Nath Marg.
  • Boulevard Road: Traffic coming from Tis Hazari will be diverted onto Rani Jhansi Flyover.
  • DCM Chowk: Traffic from Idgah R/A will be redirected onto Rani Jhansi Road toward Boulevard Road.
  • Qutub Chowk: Vehicles will be diverted onto Maharaja Agarsain Marg toward Bara Tooti Chowk, while controlled traffic will be allowed toward Pul Mithai.

Advisory to Commuters

The Delhi Traffic Police has strongly urged residents and commuters to avoid or bypass the Nagar Kirtan route during the hours of 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Motorists are advised to:

  • Use alternative routes to minimize delays.
  • Opt for public transport wherever possible to reduce congestion.
  • Exercise patience and follow traffic officials’ instructions along diversion points and congested stretches.

Public Safety and Planning

The travel advisory aims not only to prevent traffic jams but also to ensure the safety of thousands of devotees expected to participate in the religious procession. Given the popularity of the Gurpurab celebrations in Delhi, officials anticipate large-scale participation and have planned traffic diversions and restrictions accordingly.

Residents in areas along the route, as well as daily commuters, are advised to plan their travel in advance and account for the expected delays. The Delhi Traffic Police has committed to monitoring the event closely and providing on-ground support for both devotees and commuters.

The Nagar Kirtan is a significant cultural and religious event in Delhi, attracting followers from across the city and neighboring regions. The participation of large crowds, combined with ceremonial activities along narrow city roads, makes traffic management crucial. By adhering to the advisory and using public transport, citizens can help ensure a safe and smooth celebration.
