The Ebonyi State House of Assembly has ordered the Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) Board to reform its operations within two weeks to stop harassment of citizens during revenue and traffic collection.
The resolution followed complaints about unverified contractors chasing and beating motorists and cyclists, often without identification. Lawmakers described the conduct as “lawless and dehumanizing” and warned of possible summons if the board fails to comply.
Speaker Moses Ije-Odunwa directed that:
- All tax and traffic enforcement personnel must be properly identified and uniformed.
- No harassment or extortion of petty traders should occur.
- Citizens should maintain valid vehicle documents to avoid unnecessary encounters.
The Assembly also approved funds for the 2025 Christmas Palliative and passed a bill for renaming the Ebonyi State College of Health Sciences and Technology, sending it to relevant committees for further review.
