A three-member team from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) on Sunday began an investigation into the emergency crash landing of a small aircraft near Rourkela in Odisha, a senior state government official said.
At least six people were injured on Saturday afternoon when a nine-seater aircraft operated by IndiaOne Air made a forced landing near Rourkela. All occupants are reported to be in stable condition.
Odisha Commerce and Transport Department Principal Secretary Usha Padhee said the AAIB team conducted an aerial survey of the crash site using a helicopter provided by the state government. “They have taken aerial photographs of the crash landing site. A detailed ground inspection will also be carried out,” she said.
Padhee added that the state government has made all necessary arrangements to facilitate the investigation, which is being conducted in accordance with the guidelines and standard operating procedures of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
According to the DGCA, the IndiaOne Air Cessna Grand Caravan 208B aircraft was carrying six persons, including two pilots and four passengers, when it departed Bhubaneswar on Saturday afternoon. After declaring a ‘Mayday’ to Rourkela Air Traffic Control, the crew executed a forced landing at around 1:20 pm in an open area near Kansor village.
The Odisha Directorate of Aviation said in a statement that the health condition of all six occupants — including two women passengers and both pilots — is “safe and stable.” One passenger remains under close medical observation.
Padhee, who visited Rourkela on Sunday along with the AAIB team and two specialist doctors from Bhubaneswar, said a dedicated medical team is conducting evaluations and monitoring the condition of those injured.
The state government has extended full support to ensure proper medical care for the affected individuals and the smooth conduct of the AAIB investigation, the directorate said.
