Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has praised the Federal Government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Nigeria, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The commendation came during a special church service marking the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day at the Cathedral Church of St. Peter, Ake, Abeokuta. Represented by his deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Governor Abiodun highlighted the government’s decisive actions to strengthen national security, including improved intelligence coordination, enhanced inter-agency collaboration, better welfare for troops, and the provision of modern equipment for the armed forces.
“The Federal Government’s interventions are already yielding positive results, restoring public confidence in our security system,” the governor said. He urged Nigerians to support these efforts through peace, unity, and patriotism, emphasizing that collective responsibility is key to building a strong and indivisible nation.
Describing Armed Forces Remembrance Day as a moment for thanksgiving and reflection, Governor Abiodun said the occasion honors fallen heroes while reaffirming the values of selflessness, courage, and sacrifice that they defended with their lives. He also reiterated his administration’s commitment to the welfare of serving officers, veterans, and families of fallen heroes, noting that support for them is a national duty, not charity.
Delivering the sermon titled “Greater Love: The Sacrifice of the Servicemen,” Bishop of Christ Chapel of Grace and Mercy, Ven. Dr. Samson Popoola, said the greatest expression of love is the sacrifice made by servicemen and women. He highlighted that their service extends beyond the battlefield, including prolonged separation from family and personal comforts.
“We are gathered here to honour the fallen heroes, those living with disabilities, and those still alive. Armed Forces Remembrance Day is a sober reflection, as the peace Nigerians enjoy today was purchased at a great cost,” he said, citing biblical examples of selfless sacrifice.
Ven. Popoola also stressed the need for continued government support for families of fallen heroes and encouraged citizens to show care and appreciation. He reassured serving personnel that their sacrifices are divinely acknowledged.
The commemorative service included special prayers for Nigeria, the Ogun State Government, Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Armed Forces, political leaders, religious leaders, and traditional rulers.
