The Chief Executive Officer of Balmoral Group Promotions, Dr. Ezekiel Adamu, has been honoured with the Nelson Mandela Award for Contribution to African Sports and Youth Engagement, in recognition of his outstanding leadership, vision, and commitment to youth empowerment through sports and entertainment.
The prestigious award was presented at a gala ceremony held in Bari, Italy, where global leaders, innovators, and changemakers gathered to celebrate individuals who have made significant contributions to Africa’s development and global image.
According to the organisers, Dr. Adamu was selected for his transformative impact across Africa’s creative, cultural, and sports sectors, as well as his unwavering dedication to providing opportunities for young people to thrive and reach their full potential.
Dr. Adamu, who recently promoted the groundbreaking “Chaos in the Ring” boxing event in Lagos on October 1, 2025, has been instrumental in positioning Nigeria and Africa on the global sports map. The Independence Day boxing showcase — featuring a mix of international and local fighters — was widely described as the biggest boxing event ever held in Nigeria, underscoring his passion for elevating African talent and promoting youth engagement through sports.
Upon receiving the award, Dr. Adamu expressed gratitude to his team and dedicated the honour to African athletes whose courage and perseverance continue to inspire the continent.
“I’m truly honoured to be recognized under a powerful name that stands for determination, courage, forgiveness, faith, and love,” he said. “This award also goes to the amazing athletes who step into the ring — those who fight with determination and courage for their dreams and freedom. This is all for them.”
Dr. Adamu also reaffirmed his commitment to nurturing young talent across Africa, highlighting the continent’s immense potential.
“Africa is a very dynamic continent with about 1.4 billion people, and 70 percent of that population is youth between the ages of 16 and 35. The journey is just beginning — expect great things and world champions to rise from Africa,” he added.
Social activist and Ndileka Mandela, eldest grandchild of Nelson Mandela, spoke passionately at the event about the ideals that inspired the award.
“Inspired by the ideals of greater liberty, peace, human dignity, and human fulfilment, I believe that true purpose is found in uplifting others — in using our gifts, our voice, and our time to light the path for those who come after us,” she said.
Also speaking, fashion entrepreneur Taiwo Meghoma emphasised the essence of selfless service and empowerment, noting that,
“Life is not measured by what we gain, but by what we give. True purpose lies in uplifting others and helping shape a better future for the next generation.”
With this recognition, Dr. Ezekiel Adamu joins a growing list of African trailblazers whose work embodies the spirit of Nelson Mandela — one of resilience, service, and transformation.
Through his continued work in sports, culture, and youth development, Dr. Adamu remains a leading voice in redefining Africa’s global narrative and inspiring the next generation of achievers.
