In preparation for the 2027 general elections, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has appointed Hon. Adamu Usman Tubo as Chairman of the Borno State Transitional Committee, with Hon. Sunusi Lawan Badawi designated as Secretary.
Tubo represents Borno South Senatorial District, while Badawi hails from Borno North Senatorial District.
A circular issued by Hon. Mohammed Abba Kyari, the party’s Assistant National Organizing Secretary and North East Organizing Secretary, highlighted that several former members of other political parties—including the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP)—have joined ADC’s coalition movement. This strategic alignment aims to strengthen the party’s position ahead of the elections.
Notable members appointed to the committee include former APC chieftain and ex-TETFUND Chairman Mattawali Kashim Ibrahim-Imam; former APC gubernatorial and senatorial aspirant Alhaji Idris Mamman Durkwa; ex-NNPP senatorial candidate Alhaji Attom Magira; former House Minority Leader Barrister Mohammed Kumalia; and former Borno State House of Assembly Speakers Rt. Hon. Bukar Kachallah and Rt. Hon. Bulama Fugu. Youth leaders such as Hon. Sheriff Banki, Hon. Abba Haruna, and Hon. Abba Masta also secured positions.
The circular, dated December 18, 2025, and addressed from Plot 121 Ademola Adetokunbo Crescent, Wuse II, Abuja, was also sent to the offices of ADC National Chairman Senator David Mark, Secretary Rauf Aregbesola, and National Organizing Secretary Barrister Chinedu Odigbo.
The notice stated:
“The Borno State Transitional Committee will be led by HON. ADAMU USMAN TUBO as Chairman and HON. SUNUSI LAWAN BADAWI as Secretary. Committee members were selected based on political background, local government representation, federal constituencies, and senatorial districts.”
Political analysts believe the ADC is positioning itself as a strong opposition force in Borno, particularly as the PDP continues to weaken nationally.
