Adebayo, Al-Makura Receive Remains of Senator Akwashiki from India

The remains of Senator Godiya Akwashiki, who represented Nasarawa North, arrived in Nigeria on Monday from India, where he passed away last Wednesday.

The acting National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prof. Sadiq Gombe, along with former presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo, ex-Governor Umaru Al-Makura, Jonathan Gaza Gbefwi—Chairman of the House Committee on Solid Minerals, former Minister of Information Labaran Makun, and other politicians, received the late senator at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport Cargo Terminal in Abuja.

Notably, Senate President Godwill Akpabio and other Senate leaders were absent. Prof. Gombe explained that the absence of sitting senators was due to the ongoing senate recess, while expressing deep condolences for the family and describing Akwashiki’s death as a “great loss to the nation.”

“It is a great loss not only to his constituents but also to the SDP and Nigeria at large,” Gombe said.

Prince Adebayo also mourned the late senator, noting,

“Many people who know Senator Godiya Akwashiki will know that he is a great man. His loss has a negative impact on the entire state. We do not have many senators, so his death is a great loss.”

Senator Akwashiki died in India at the age of 52, leaving behind a legacy as a dedicated lawmaker and public servant.
