Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has hinted at adjusting Nigeria’s tactical formation ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations semi-final against Morocco on Wednesday. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Chelle acknowledged that some players are showing signs of fatigue after a demanding tournament.
So far, Chelle has predominantly used a 4-4-2 diamond formation, with Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams leading the attack. The Super Eagles have scored 14 goals in five matches, creating the most chances of any team in the tournament, with their high-tempo and aggressive style overwhelming opponents including Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Mozambique, and Algeria.
Chelle indicated a possible tactical tweak:
“I find that my group is tired; it might be time for me to change my approach. We’ll hold on in the first half and try to play our game in the second half.”
The coach also expressed disappointment over Wilfred Ndidi’s suspension for the semi-final. Ndidi, 29, received his second yellow card in Nigeria’s 2-0 quarter-final win against Algeria, having earlier been booked in the Round of 16 match against Mozambique. Chelle praised Ndidi’s influence on the squad and noted his absence will be felt.
