Nigerian comedian Bovi has reacted strongly to the Super Eagles’ defeat to Morocco at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), questioning the team’s commitment, focus, and mental readiness.
In a viral video that has sparked intense debate online, the comedian warned players against reporting for national duty if they are not fully prepared to give their all for the country.
According to Bovi, representing Nigeria requires total sacrifice, regardless of personal grievances.
“Don’t come to the Super Eagles if you’re not ready to give everything for the nation. If the NFF delays your payment, let it go,” he said.
Bovi went further to blame social media distractions and excessive praise for affecting players’ concentration, arguing that top football nations approach international duties with greater discipline.
“Social media has distracted you all, and the praise has entered your heads. When Argentina were preparing to play us four days before, none of their players were active on social media,” he added.
The comedian also described football as a unifying force that brings Nigerians of different religions and backgrounds together, stressing the need for unity, discipline, and selflessness when wearing the national jersey.
His remarks followed the disappointing semi-final clash against Morocco, a result that left many fans questioning the Super Eagles’ mindset and overall commitment.
As expected, Bovi’s comments drew mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians agreeing with his stance, while others argued that players deserve proper compensation and that patriotism alone cannot cover personal risks and responsibilities.
The incident has once again reignited the long-standing debate about professionalism, sacrifice, and accountability within Nigerian football.
