Senegal booked a spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals with a hard-fought 1–0 win over a 10-man Mali at the Grand Stade de Tanger.
The only goal of the match came in the 28th minute, when Iliman Ndiaye capitalised on a costly mistake by Mali goalkeeper Djigui Diarra, calmly slotting the ball past him to give the Teranga Lions the lead.
Mali’s chances suffered another blow late in the first half when captain Yves Bissouma received a red card for a reckless challenge on Idrissa Gueye, leaving the Eagles a man down.
Despite being a player short, Mali fought hard after the break, pressing for an equaliser, but Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy made several crucial saves to maintain the lead. Senegal also threatened on counter-attacks, though Diarra made up for his earlier error with a series of impressive stops.
Senegal will now face the winner of Egypt vs Ivory Coast in the semi-finals, scheduled for next Wednesday in Tanger.
