Air Peace to Refund Jamaica-Bound Passengers After Flight Diversion to Barbados

Air Peace Limited has agreed to refund passengers affected by a flight diversion that left some travelers stranded in Barbados, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has confirmed.

The airline strongly denied claims that it misled passengers into buying tickets to Jamaica and then abandoning them in Barbados. According to Air Peace, all tickets were sold following international airline practices and aviation regulations.

The situation arose after some passengers lacked the necessary transit visas to travel via Antigua to Jamaica. As a result, 42 passengers voluntarily agreed to rerouting through Barbados, where Nigerian passport holders do not require a visa. Air Peace facilitated these changes and offered full refunds to those who requested them.

Michael Achimugu, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, stated on X that following discussions with the airline’s chairman, it was agreed that affected passengers would receive refunds. Some of the issues stemmed from passengers not having onward tickets or proof of funds required by immigration authorities.

The NCAA emphasized that mediation and adherence to regulations guided the resolution, with Air Peace ready to provide evidence in court if needed. Achimugu also highlighted the need for passengers to comply with travel requirements to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Air Peace has committed to processing refunds promptly while NCAA continues to ensure compliance with aviation regulations and prevent recurrence.
