AMAN Honours Majek Fashek with Posthumous Award

The late reggae legend Majek Fashek, who passed away on June 7, 2020, was posthumously honoured by the Artistes Managers Association of Nigeria (AMAN) during the association’s 30th anniversary celebration at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos.

Speaking on behalf of the late icon, Omenka Uzoma Day, Majek Fashek’s manager and CEO of Miracle Day Music, expressed deep gratitude for the recognition.

“I say a big thank you to AMAN for the recognition award to Majek. This is the first award he has received after his demise, and we are truly grateful,” Uzo said. He added, “Majek paved the way for today’s musicians who are making Nigeria proud all over the world. When I got the news, I had to cancel my ongoing tour in New Zealand and Australia because this is such a grand honour.”

Uzo also clarified misconceptions about Majek’s lifestyle, noting, “Majek was never involved in hard drugs; he only smoked weed and took alcohol.”

Recalling their years together, he said, “He lived with me for 12 years across Atlanta, the U.S., UK, South Africa, and Nigeria. I know him inside out. People should wait for the untold story of Majek Fashek. I even brought his bell, which he gave me in November 2018, and I now understand its significance.”

Uzo thanked Wizkid’s manager, Sunday Are, for accompanying him on stage and the team of Majek’s Spirit of Love for their support. He also conveyed the gratitude of Majek’s son, Randy, to the organisers and fans across Nigeria and Africa who have always believed in his father.

The posthumous award serves as a tribute to Majek Fashek’s enduring influence on Nigeria’s music scene and his legacy as one of Africa’s iconic reggae artists.
