Former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Deputy Governor, Kingsley Moghalu, expressed surprise over past remarks made by some ambassadorial nominees against President Bola Tinubu, describing their turnaround as “staggering.”
In a post on X, Moghalu said he was “chilled to the bones” reading what some nominees had written about the President before accepting ambassadorial appointments.
“I am not a political partisan for or against President Tinubu. It’s quite OK to disagree politically or on principle, and perhaps later have a change of mind. But the kind of extreme, personally abusive, and invective-loaded language these people have used to describe a human being, and then later accept crumbs from the subject of the abuse, is staggering,” he wrote.
Moghalu added that while political disagreement is acceptable, resorting to extreme personal attacks and later switching positions for appointments reflects more on the speaker than the person targeted.
“At least, if you feel that strongly about a person, stay in your lane. To go to such extremes just because of fleeting political opposition and then eat your own vomit says far more about the speaker than the person spoken about,” he said.
He concluded by emphasizing the need for civility in political discourse, cautioning against abusive language even in moments of opposition.
