Amit Shah Urges Security Forces to Make J&K ‘Terror-Free’ After Crippling Terror Network

New Delhi, Jan 8, 2026: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday directed all security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) to remain vigilant and work in close coordination to sustain the gains achieved after the abrogation of Article 370 and to make the region completely free of terrorism.

The directions were issued during a high-level review meeting in Delhi, attended by J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, senior J&K officials, and chiefs of central police forces.

Key Highlights

  • Shah emphasized that the government would provide all necessary resources to security forces to achieve the goal of a terror-free J&K at the earliest.
  • He stated that the terror ecosystem in J&K has been crippled due to sustained and coordinated operations, including counter-terror (CT) actions targeting infrastructure and terror financing.
  • Security forces have been conducting intensive operations in mountainous and forested areas, while also monitoring potential terrorist infiltration across the border.
  • Shah lauded the forces for strengthening security in the region and directed them to continue operations in a mission mode to fully eliminate terror networks.

Background Context

  • Last year, the Baisaran meadow terror attack brought India and Pakistan close to war. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, striking terror and military installations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), before the ceasefire on May 10.
  • Recently, the Border Security Force (BSF) flagged the re-emergence of nine Jaish-e-Mohammed terror launch pads along the international border that had been previously neutralized during Operation Sindoor.

Shah’s remarks underscore the government’s continued commitment to long-term peace and security in J&K, ensuring that terrorist activities are fully eradicated while maintaining vigilance ahead of national events such as Republic Day.
