Amnesty International has called for a transparent and impartial investigation into the deaths of at least nine women protesters in Lamurde LGA, Adamawa State, alleging the military used unlawful and excessive force.
The rights group stated that soldiers opened fire on women demonstrating with live ammunition without warning, injuring several others. Amnesty described the incident as horrific and criticized the government’s slow and inadequate response to the ongoing conflict between the Bachama and Chobo communities.
Amnesty warned that the failure to investigate such human rights violations fosters a culture of impunity and undermines the sanctity of human life in Nigeria.
