Mrs. Nonye Soludo, wife of Anambra State Governor and founder of the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative, has raised concerns over the increasing cases of cardiovascular-related deaths in Nigeria, urging citizens to adopt healthier lifestyles and regular medical checkups.
Speaking in Awka, Mrs. Soludo noted that neglecting routine heart examinations has contributed to the rise in cardiovascular diseases, including heart failure, cardiac arrest, and stroke.
“Deaths from cardiovascular diseases are often sudden and unavoidable, especially in their acute stages,” she warned.
She emphasized that many of these conditions are preventable by addressing lifestyle risk factors such as tobacco use, unhealthy diets, obesity, physical inactivity, and excessive alcohol consumption.
“Healthy living plays a crucial role in reducing cardiovascular deaths. Regular exercise, consuming nutritious and organic foods, and routine heart checks are all vital for prevention,” she advised.
Mrs. Soludo also called on individuals with a hereditary risk for cardiovascular diseases to be especially mindful of their health habits and avoid behaviors that could worsen underlying conditions.
Through her NGO, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, she aims to promote a philosophy of well-being that encourages Nigerians to stay proactive in preventing diseases, particularly those linked to poor diet and cardiovascular health.
