Anthony Joshua’s Driver Pleads Not Guilty to Manslaughter, Secures ₦5m Bail

Adeniyi Kayode, identified as a driver in the entourage of British-Nigerian boxing champion Anthony Joshua, has pleaded not guilty to a manslaughter charge arising from a fatal road accident.

Kayode, who told the court he has worked as Joshua’s driver for the past three years, denied allegations of reckless driving. He maintained that the incident was caused by a sudden brake failure, not negligence on his part.

“I was not overspeeding or driving recklessly. My brake failed despite repeated attempts to stop the vehicle,” he told the court, describing the incident as an unfortunate accident.

Prosecutors informed the court that the crash resulted in the death of individuals, leading to the manslaughter charge. Details of the victims and circumstances surrounding the accident were outlined during the proceedings.

Following his plea, the court granted Kayode bail in the sum of ₦5 million, with conditions attached to ensure his appearance throughout the trial. The case was adjourned to a later date for further hearing as investigations continue.

The matter has drawn public attention due to Kayode’s association with the heavyweight boxing star, with many observers closely following how the court will assess responsibility in light of his mechanical failure claim.
