Hashimu Sulaiman Dungurawa, chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State, has claimed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) lacks the political strength to win the 2027 elections without the support of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Speaking at a press briefing at the NNPP state headquarters, Dungurawa said the APC has lost focus and direction at both state and national levels, which explains why the party repeatedly seeks Kwankwaso’s influence.
“These APC people are weak and confused. They know without Kwankwaso, they will not win in 2027. They keep telling the public they are in talks with him. They need him. But he is only concerned about the welfare of Nigerians,” Dungurawa said.
He added that while political reconciliation is always possible, Kwankwaso’s recent engagements with various political figures were coincidental and not indicative of alliance talks.
Responding to questions about the NNPP presidential candidate receiving roughly 500,000 votes in Kano during the 2023 elections, Dungurawa explained that the party was only seven months old, ballot awareness was low, and the logo was not clearly printed. Despite this, the NNPP still won seats in Kano, Jigawa, Taraba, and Bauchi. He expressed confidence that a redesigned logo and wider acceptance would improve the party’s performance in 2027.
Dungurawa also reaffirmed internal party stability, noting that most executives would retain their positions according to the NNPP constitution, which allows executives to serve two terms unless they defect, die, or face disciplinary issues.
He announced upcoming by-elections next month to replace three councillors who passed away in Garin, Dala, and Doguwa LGAs.
Praising Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s 2026 budget for its focus on education and agriculture, Dungurawa also lauded visible infrastructural transformations across the state, while criticizing former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for neglecting education, scholarships, and pensions.
On recent defections, Dungurawa clarified that only one federal lawmaker voluntarily left the NNPP, while others had already been suspended. He dismissed claims that Jamilu Kabir Bichi had left the party, stating he was never an NNPP member.
He concluded by urging members to stay united and prepare for a stronger, more strategic party ahead of the 2027 elections.
