APC Condemns PDP Faction’s Appeal to President Trump, Calls It a “Request for Foreign Invasion” of Nigeria

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticised the faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Tanimu Turaki, accusing him of undermining Nigeria’s sovereignty by publicly calling on foreign powers—particularly former U.S. President Donald Trump—to intervene in the country’s political crisis.

In a statement issued in Abuja, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka described Turaki’s remarks as an act of desperation that amounted to “a call for foreign invasion of Nigeria,” warning that such a plea could set a dangerous precedent for external interference in Nigeria’s internal political affairs.

According to the APC, Turaki’s comments reveal an alarming disregard for national stability, especially from someone recently declared chairman of a deeply divided opposition party.

“For a man declared National Chairman barely 72 hours ago by a faction of his deeply fractured party, Turaki looked and sounded desperate, at his wits’ end, confused, incoherent, and grossly lacking in stamina and capacity to manage his party’s crisis,” the ruling party said.

APC: PDP Should Focus on Peacemaking, Not Escalation

Framing the issue as a national security concern rather than mere political rivalry, the APC said Nigerians expected Turaki to pursue reconciliation within the PDP instead of inflaming tensions.

The ruling party argued that Turaki should have initiated “an urgent peace-building mission” to address the PDP’s internal turmoil rather than appealing to foreign governments.

The APC expressed confidence that the international community would dismiss Turaki’s comments outright.

“We trust the international community to reject the PDP’s disgraceful and unpatriotic call as a pitiful distraction from the failure of its internal democracy and embarrassing disintegration,” the statement read, urging Nigerians to remain steadfast in their support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Instead, the party said, Turaki took a destabilising path.

“Turaki’s first official act as factional chairman was his call for foreign invasion of Nigeria as a solution to the self-inflicted internal crisis of his PDP. That is as shameless as it is a dangerous threat to national security and sovereignty,” the APC added.

Turaki Doubles Down, Calls on Trump to ‘Save Democracy’

Speaking after confrontations involving police officers at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja, Turaki reiterated his appeal for international intervention.

“I want to call on President Trump. What is at stake is not just a genocide against Nigerian Christians,” he said. “He should come and save democracy in Nigeria. Democracy is under threat. I am calling on all other developed nations, all advanced democracies. Come and save Nigeria, come and save democracy.”

Turaki also accused expelled former minister Nyesom Wike of storming the PDP headquarters with loyalists and security personnel to disrupt scheduled National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings.

APC: Foreign Appeal Shows Collapse of PDP

According to the APC, Turaki’s statements confirm the PDP’s ongoing implosion.

The ruling party said the request for international intervention “is not only an admission of the party’s incapacity to manage its internal contradictions; it must be taken as a final certification of the PDP’s demise.”

The controversy unfolds amid heightened global attention, with former U.S. President Donald Trump threatening military action over what he described as genocide against Christians in Nigeria. Trump has also listed Nigeria as a “country of particular concern.”
