The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualified former Osun State Deputy Governor, Iyiola Omisore, along with six other aspirants, from participating in its upcoming governorship primary.

According to the APC screening committee, the affected aspirants failed to provide the required evidence of sponsorship from at least five fully registered and financially up-to-date party members in each Local Government Area of Osun State. The committee cited Articles 9.3(i) and 31.2(ii) of the APC Constitution, as well as Paragraph 6(c) of the party’s guidelines, as the basis for the disqualification.

Others Disqualified

The other aspirants disqualified include:

• Former Deputy Governor Benedict Olugboyega Alabi
• Dotun Babayemi
• Akin Ogunbiyi
• Senator Babajide Omoworare
• Kunle Adegoke (SAN)
• Babatunde Haketer Oralusi

Two Aspirants Cleared

Meanwhile, only two contenders were cleared to participate in the primary:

• Mulikat Abiola Jimoh
• Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji

Background: Omisore’s 2026 Ambition

SaharaReporters had earlier reported on October 4 that Omisore formally declared his intention to run for the Osun State governorship under the APC platform for the 2026 election cycle.

In a statement personally signed by him, Omisore said his decision followed “deep reflection and wide consultations,” adding that his campaign would be anchored on the theme: “Fix the Broken, Restore Our Dreams.”

He expressed confidence in the capacity of Osun people to rebuild the state:

“I believe strongly that together, we can restore hope, strengthen governance, and deliver a brighter future for every son and daughter of Osun. This is not just my mission; it is a collective one.”

Omisore urged supporters to join him on what he described as the Osun Rescue Mission 2026, emphasizing that the vision for the state’s renewal must be shared widely.

Omisore’s Political Journey

Omisore previously contested the governorship of Osun State on several occasions but was unsuccessful. He also represented Osun East Senatorial District from 2003 to 2011.
