Archbishop Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), has called on Nigerian Catholics to deepen their commitment to Church doctrines and actively collaborate with the Bishops’ Conference in promoting the faith.
The Archbishop made the remarks during a reception for the Laity Council’s National President, Sir Ambrose Obioha KSM, accompanied by Rev. Fr. Augustine Ifediba, National Chaplain, and Prince Faith Uche Iwuorisha KSM, National President of the Catholic Men Organization (CMO), at the Maria Assumpta Cathedral complex in Owerri.
Archbishop Ugorji highlighted an ongoing initiative aimed at embedding Catholic Social Teachings (CST) within the educational framework of Catholic institutions. “The Conference is working to make Catholic Social Teaching trickle down to our Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary institutions, so Catholics can internalize our core values,” he said.
He encouraged the Laity Council to lead efforts in ensuring that the faithful embody these teachings in daily life, stressing that well-formed children grow into responsible and value-driven adults who can effect positive societal change.
In response, Laity Council President Sir Ambrose Obioha reaffirmed the council’s commitment to the Church’s doctrines and social principles. He pledged full cooperation with the vision of the Bishops’ Conference and sought Archbishop Ugorji’s guidance in implementing strategic initiatives to promote the common good.
The meeting reinforced collaboration between clergy and laity leadership, underscoring a united effort to strengthen the faith of millions of Nigerian Catholics and advance the Church’s principles of social justice, human dignity, and public service. Both parties concluded the visit with a shared commitment to unity and active propagation of the Catholic faith across Nigeria.
