Assam Teen Murdered by 63-Year-Old Man Over Pregnancy, Body Found in Septic Tank

Silchar, Assam, November 10, 2025: A shocking case of sexual abuse and murder has come to light in Assam’s Jorhat district, where a 63-year-old man allegedly killed a teenage girl after she became pregnant, hiding her body in a septic tank at his residence. The suspect, identified as Jagat Singh, has a history of luring women under the pretense of practicing black magic, police said.

The Victim and the Crime

The victim, who had turned 18 just two months ago, had gone missing on the evening of November 7. Her family filed a missing person complaint, pointing fingers at Singh, a local businessman known in the area for claiming magical remedies.

According to Jorhat Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Subhrajyoti Bora, Singh initially denied any involvement. However, during questioning on the night of November 9, he confessed to having an illicit relationship with the girl, which resulted in her pregnancy. When attempts to terminate the pregnancy failed, Singh allegedly killed the victim and concealed her body in the septic tank of his house.

The body was retrieved from the septic tank early on Monday at 4 AM and sent to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) for post-mortem examination. Police confirmed that the girl was eight months pregnant at the time of her death.

Arrests and Legal Proceedings

Police have arrested Jagat Singh along with his two sons, Jivan Singh and Kishan Singh, and a local chemist, Rekibuddin Ahmed, who allegedly helped attempt to terminate the pregnancy. The arrests were made under sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, since the sexual relationship reportedly began when the girl was a minor.

SSP Bora stated, “Singh took the girl to the chemist for an abortion, but she was told it was too late. We have arrested his two sons and the chemist as they were aware that the girl was underage and failed to alert the authorities.” Following his arrest, Singh attempted suicide but was rescued by security personnel and hospitalized for treatment.

Public Outrage

News of the arrest sparked widespread outrage in the Jorhat district. Large crowds gathered outside Titabar Police Station, demanding justice and calling for the death penalty for Singh. Local residents described Singh as someone who had been sexually exploiting women under the guise of black magic for years.

A protester said, “This man lured women in the name of magical remedies and exploited them for years. No one dared speak against him. Now, a young girl has become his victim. We demand the strictest punishment.”

Investigation Details

Authorities have revealed that Singh’s residence contained an ashram-like setup, used to lure women for sexual exploitation. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the case by Jorhat District Magistrate Jay Shivani.

The police and district administration are continuing their investigation into the network that enabled this crime, including the roles of Singh’s family members and the chemist. Forensic evidence and further questioning are being conducted to piece together the events leading up to the murder.

Broader Implications

This case has once again highlighted the dangers of sexual exploitation under the pretense of mystical or spiritual practices. Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, especially involving vulnerable individuals.

The arrests under POCSO underscore the legal system’s increasing emphasis on protecting minors from sexual crimes, even if the victim has recently reached the age of majority. Officials have stressed that any sexual relationship initiated while the individual was a minor constitutes a punishable offense, and those who enable or conceal such acts can also face stringent penalties.

Conclusion

The murder of the 18-year-old girl in Jorhat has shocked Assam and the nation, shining a harsh light on the exploitation of vulnerable individuals by individuals posing as spiritual or magical practitioners. Police investigations are ongoing, and authorities have promised swift action against all those involved. The case also highlights the need for greater awareness and community vigilance to protect minors from sexual abuse and exploitation.
