Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund has become an important source of support for families of soldiers who live difficult lives and make sacrifices for the nation. Launching the state’s fund collection drive at his Nagpur residence, he said the government has increased financial aid for families of martyred soldiers from ₹25 lakh to ₹1 crore.
Fadnavis noted that many citizens voluntarily contribute to the fund, which is used for welfare programmes for ex-servicemen and their dependents. He highlighted the Indian Army’s valour during ‘Operation Sindoor’ and urged people to donate according to their capacity as a mark of respect.
During the event, officials were felicitated for meeting collection targets. Florists Ashish and Santosh Gadikar, who donate ₹500 monthly, were specially honoured. Major Hemant Jakate contributed ₹50,000, while Geeta Kothe donated ₹1 lakh. Children of ex-servicemen who excelled academically were also felicitated.
Nagpur district collected ₹3.51 crore in 2024, making it one of Maharashtra’s top contributors; the same target has been set for 2025.
