The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has praised the Bola Tinubu administration for a more disciplined and professional approach in renegotiating the ASUU–Federal Government agreement, contrasting sharply with previous administrations.
In a post on its official Facebook page, ASUU highlighted that the ongoing negotiations, which began in October 2024, have been marked by calm deliberation and minimal media theatrics, a departure from the “excessive grandstanding and public posturing” often witnessed during earlier talks.
Though not explicitly named, ASUU’s mention of “Okija shrine theatrics” was widely interpreted as a jab at former Labour Minister Chris Ngige, whose tenure saw frequent clashes between the union and the Federal Government amid prolonged strikes and public disputes.
The union’s statement underscores its approval of Tinubu’s strategic and less performative approach, suggesting that negotiations conducted with professionalism and restraint are more productive for both parties.
