Atiku Mourns Hero Imam Abubakar Abdullahi, Hailing His Selfless Courage

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed his heartfelt condolences following the death of Imam Abubakar Abdullahi, describing him as a “distinguished patriot” and a “symbol of compassion”.

Imam Abdullahi gained widespread admiration for his extraordinary bravery during the June 2018 Plateau crisis, when he selflessly risked his life to protect over 260 Christians. At a time when religious tensions were escalating, the Imam opened the doors of his mosque and home, offering refuge to those in danger and saving many lives. His courage became a powerful reminder of the potential for humanity to rise above division and hatred.

Atiku Abubakar paid tribute to the Imam on his X account on Friday, emphasizing that Imam Abdullahi’s life was a testament to the strength of human compassion and unity. He said:

“His life transcended religious divides and affirmed our shared humanity. His act of bravery not only saved hundreds of lives but also stood as a powerful testament that peace, empathy, and brotherhood are the firmest foundations of national unity.”

The former vice president called on all Nigerians to honor Imam Abdullahi’s memory by recommitting to the values of interfaith harmony, mutual respect, and the unwavering defense of human life.

“May his soul find peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire hope across our diverse nation,” Atiku concluded.
