Australian Para-athlete Nicholas Hum, bronze medallist in the long jump at the Tokyo Paralympic Games in 2021, has died at the age of 32.
Hum made his international debut at the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships and went on to compete in three Paralympic Games and five World Para Athletics Championships, with his final appearance at the Paris Paralympics in 2025.
He holds the Australian T20 long jump record with a leap of 7.39m and secured his Tokyo bronze with a 7.12m jump.
In a statement, Australian Athletics said Hum “made a lasting impact on team-mates and competitors, coaches and staff alike” and described him as a “valued and respected member of Australia’s athletics, high-performance and Paralympic communities.”
CEO Simon Hollingsworth added:
“Nick was respected not only for his commitment to his sport but for the way he showed up for those around him. His loss is deeply felt.”
Hum is survived by his wife, Mairead, and three children: William, Holly, and Paige. The cause of his death has not been announced.
