The Osun State Government has confirmed that a baby delivered by a mentally-challenged mother in the Modakeke area is safe and healthy under government care.
The Wellbeing Foundation Africa (WBFA), an NGO focused on maternal, newborn, and child health, praised the swift intervention by the state authorities. During a visit to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Mrs. Abimbola Babatunde, WBFA’s National Programmes Lead, Mr. Kehinde Akinsola, highlighted their interest in the newborn’s wellbeing.
He commended the staff of Primary Healthcare Itaasin for promptly attending to the mother and ensuring a safe delivery. He also emphasized WBFA’s role in alerting government officials to prevent unauthorized claims on the baby.
“Our midwife at the facility informed us, and we quickly intervened to ensure the newborn’s protection. We appreciate the Ministry, PHC staff, and the Ogunsua of Modakeke, Oba Joseph Olubiyi Toriola, for their timely support,” Akinsola said.
In response, Mrs. Babatunde confirmed that the child is now safely placed in an undisclosed child care home and is receiving appropriate care.
As part of their support, WBFA presented certificates of commendation to the healthcare workers involved and donated baby items to the Ministry to aid in the newborn’s care.
