An Ibom Air flight from Abuja to Lagos on Thursday was forced to return to the nation’s capital due to adverse weather conditions in Lagos.
Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong, who was on board, shared his experience on social media:
“We took off from Abuja at about 7:10 AM. Sadly, the plane couldn’t land due to bad weather. After hovering for about 30 minutes in Lagos, the captain changed course. Two hours later, we were back in Abuja. The captain handled it well.”
The airline had not released an official statement regarding the incident at the time of reporting.
Weather-related disruptions are not uncommon in Nigeria. In September 2025, Air Peace delayed several flights due to heavy rainfall in Lagos and Port Harcourt. The airline emphasized that passenger safety remains the top priority and urged understanding during such disruptions.
