Two travellers were kidnapped and another shot during a violent attack by bandits along the Egbe–Ogbe road in Yagba West Local Government Area, Kogi State, on Tuesday morning.
According to sources who spoke to SaharaReporters, the assailants ambushed commuters along the busy route, forcing vehicles to stop before abducting two victims and fleeing into nearby bushes.
One of the travellers, reportedly shot while attempting to escape, managed to flee and is currently receiving medical treatment. One of the abducted victims has been identified as Mabe, a native of Egbe.
Residents described the incident as another alarming reminder of the worsening security situation in Yagba West, particularly along major roads connecting communities. They noted that the Egbe–Ogbe axis has become increasingly dangerous, with commuters left vulnerable to armed groups operating with minimal resistance.
This follows another recent attack in the area, when bandits reportedly stormed Jege in Yagba East LGA on Monday night, December 15, abducting an unconfirmed number of residents.
As of this report, security agencies and the state government have yet to issue an official statement regarding the attack. Residents have called for increased patrols and urgent interventions to prevent further incidents.
