Bayero University Kano Issues Guidelines for PhD, Master’s Students Seeking Amnesty

Bayero University Kano (BUK) has released an updated notice clarifying the procedure for postgraduate students seeking amnesty after exceeding the approved duration of their academic programmes.

The directive applies specifically to PhD and academic Master’s students who, for various reasons, were unable to complete their studies within the officially approved timeframe. Affected students are now required to submit a formal letter requesting amnesty to regularise their academic status.

The notice, titled “Notice on Post Graduate Amnesty”, was shared on BUK’s official X handle on Thursday. It specifies that applications must be:

  • Addressed to the Provost, College of Postgraduate Studies
  • Routed through the Head of Department for consideration

The university emphasised that students should disregard the earlier instruction directing letters to the Vice-Chancellor, which has now been superseded. BUK urged all concerned students to follow the updated process promptly to avoid academic complications.

The notice also encouraged students to help disseminate the revised information, ensuring that those who received the earlier directive are aware of the proper administrative channel.

BUK stressed that adherence to this process is crucial for the regularisation of postgraduate academic status and for compliance with institutional regulations.
