Bengaluru Tech Professional Found Dead in Locked Home, Police Begin Investigation

A grim discovery in Bengaluru’s Manjunath Nagar has prompted a police investigation after the body of a 40-year-old tech professional was found in an advanced stage of decomposition inside his locked home. The man, who had been living alone for several years, was discovered on Friday after neighbours reported a persistent foul smell that had lingered in the area for nearly two weeks.

According to police officers familiar with the case, the deceased was found at a rented house located on Third Cross in Manjunath Nagar. The house had remained locked from the inside for days, raising suspicions among residents and the homeowner. Initially, the foul odour was thought to be caused by a dead animal in a stormwater drain or on a nearby terrace. Some residents even attempted to flush the drain with water in hopes of addressing the problem. However, as the smell intensified, attention turned to the house, which appeared to have been shut for an unusually long period.

Police were alerted by the house owner, who reported that his tenant had not been seen for days and that the door was locked from the inside. Upon arrival, officers forced entry and found the body in a severely decomposed state, indicating that the death likely occurred around 10 days earlier.

Vijayanagara ACP Chandan confirmed the details, stating, “The deceased had been living in the house for 15 years. His mother passed away three years ago, and he had no one else living with him. He was an MSc graduate in computer science and was employed with HP.” He added that the body has been sent to Victoria Hospital for a post-mortem examination. A case of Unnatural Death Report (UDR) has been registered at Basaveshwaranagar Police Station as the investigation continues.

The incident has left residents disturbed, particularly due to the extended duration in which the body remained undiscovered. Many expressed shock that a neighbour could remain unnoticed for so long, reflecting concerns about isolation, especially among individuals living alone in urban settings.

Police have now informed the man’s relatives, who are expected to provide additional details that may help piece together the events leading up to his death. The exact cause and time of death will be confirmed once the autopsy report is released. For now, investigators are examining all possibilities, including natural causes, medical complications, or any external factors that may have contributed.

The case highlights the growing issue of social isolation in metropolitan cities like Bengaluru, where busy lifestyles and limited community interactions sometimes leave vulnerable individuals unnoticed for extended periods. Police are urging neighbours and communities to stay alert and check on residents who live alone, particularly elderly individuals or those with known health conditions.

Further updates are awaited pending the autopsy findings and statements from family members.
