Bihar Deputy CM Vijay Sinha Vows Tough Action Against Land and Sand Mafia

Patna: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha on Wednesday announced that the state government will take stringent action against the land and sand mafia, as well as individuals “spreading anarchy,” asserting that a “pleasant and healthy” environment will be restored in the state by March 31.

“Curing the Disease” of Mafia Influence

Holding the revenue and land reforms portfolio, Sinha compared the challenge to administering medicine for a disease, saying, “If too much dose is given at once, adverse reactions can happen. I am fully confident that the disease will be cured by March 31.” He added that while the department is currently relying on traditional methods, it is prepared to take more forceful measures, if necessary, likening them to surgery.

Government Backing and Legislative Measures

Sinha emphasized that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has issued clear instructions to act decisively against the sand and land mafia. The government also plans to introduce a new law targeting these illegal activities.

  • Transparent and stringent laws will be implemented to deal with mafia operations.
  • The government aims to restore trust and confidence among citizens, particularly in land-related matters.

Outreach and Monitoring

To directly address grievances, Sinha has been conducting ‘Bhoomi Sudhar Jan Kalyan Samvad’ meetings across districts, engaging circle officers and officials. Special reviews will be conducted every 15 days, with intensive inspections in areas reporting the highest number of complaints.

  • The next review meeting is scheduled for January 15, followed by a comprehensive review by the end of January.
  • These measures are designed to identify and take action against culprits while ensuring transparency and accountability in land and sand management.

Sinha’s statements signal a renewed push by the Bihar government to curb illegal activities in the land and sand sectorsand strengthen governance at the grassroots level.
