Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has emphasized that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is committed to protecting the lives of all Nigerians, including Christians and Muslims.
Speaking during an interview on CNN The Exchange, Idris noted that Boko Haram extremists target both mosques and churches, dismissing claims that attacks are limited to the North or to a single religious group.
He stated, “We know that some of these Boko Haram extremists have targeted Muslims in mosques and Christians in churches… What these criminal elements and extremists want the world to feel is that there is a fight between Christians and Muslims, which is not the case—it’s absolutely false.”
The minister reiterated that Nigeria remains a religiously tolerant country, with citizens guaranteed the right to practice their faith under the Constitution, and both Christians and Muslims working harmoniously within government and society.
Idris stressed that spreading the notion of religious targeting could drive division and undermine national unity, highlighting the administration’s efforts to address security challenges nationwide.
