
A deadly bandit attack struck Gatawa community in Sabon-Birni Local Government Area, Sokoto State, on Saturday night, leaving multiple residents dead and several others injured.
Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers stormed the community in large numbers, opening fire and causing widespread panic as residents fled for safety. Local sources also confirmed that an unspecified number of people were abducted during the raid.
The assault targeted worshippers observing Subh prayer at a mosque in Kiba Ruwa, another community in Sabon-Birni, in the early hours of Saturday. The imam leading the prayer and another individual were confirmed dead, while several congregants were reportedly abducted. The exact number of victims has not yet been verified.
Authorities have yet to release an official casualty count.
This incident adds to the growing wave of violent attacks across parts of Sokoto State, raising serious concerns over the worsening security situation in the region.
