BREAKING: Four Rivers Assembly Lawmakers Reverse Call for Reconciliation, Insist Impeachment of Gov Fubara, Deputy Must Continue

Four members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have reversed their earlier call for reconciliation, declaring that the impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu should continue.

The lawmakers made this announcement on Friday during a press conference in Port Harcourt, a video of which was obtained by SaharaReporters.

They explained that their initial appeal for a political solution had been ignored, accusing the governor and his deputy of using their media aides to attack the House of Assembly.

One lawmaker said:

“During the pendency of our appeal, we found out that the Governor and Deputy Governor have employed their media aides to continuously attack the House of Assembly. Instead of seeking the political solution we offered, we are saying the impeachment proceedings should continue.”

Another lawmaker emphasized that the decision is based on persistent constitutional violations by the governor and deputy:

“Infringement on the Constitution is a no-go. This is not ethnic, and we should not ethnicise this matter. This is simply a constitutional issue. The process should continue.”

The lawmakers stressed that their position is strictly guided by constitutional concerns, not personal or ethnic considerations, as political tensions in Rivers State continue to escalate.
