The Northern States Governors’ Forum and the Northern Traditional Leaders Council have convened an emergency security meeting at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna, following a sharp rise in violent attacks across the region.
The gathering, which is being held behind closed doors, is jointly chaired by the Forum’s Chairman and Gombe State Governor, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, alongside the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, representing the traditional leadership.
Their discussions are centered on the worsening security situation in the North, including banditry, terrorism, mass kidnappings, and ongoing farmer–herder conflicts—incidents that have claimed hundreds of lives and displaced thousands in recent months.
DAILY POST reports that insecurity in northern Nigeria has escalated significantly in the past weeks.
In Kebbi State, at least 24 schoolgirls were recently abducted by bandits but regained their freedom days later.
In a similar incident, no fewer than 200 schoolchildren were kidnapped from a Catholic private school in Niger State. About 50 of them reportedly escaped and have since been reunited with their families.
The emergency meeting is expected to produce a coordinated regional response as public concern continues to mount over the deteriorating security landscape.
