Burna Boy, Davido Absent at AFRIMA Awards Despite Major Wins

Top Nigerian music stars Burna Boy and Davido were notably absent at this year’s AFRIMA Awards, despite being among the event’s biggest winners and headliners.

Burna Boy took home Album of the Year but did not attend the ceremony to receive his award, while Davido’s absence was also conspicuous, leaving fans from across Africa disappointed.

However, other African artists rose to the occasion, including Phyno, Shallipopi, Wendy Shay, and Yemi Alade, delivering performances that kept the audience entertained. The evening also featured a memorable reunion between Ghana’s Stonebwoy and Nigeria’s Mr P, performing their 2025 hit “ODO,” blending Afrobeats and dancehall influences to celebrate cross-cultural unity.

Additionally, Seyi Vibez, Fuji legend Adewale Ayuba, and veteran musician Bright Chimezie, known for his Zigima Sound, contributed surprise performances that added excitement to the event.

Despite the absence of Burna Boy and Davido, the AFRIMA Awards showcased the diversity and dynamism of African music, leaving fans with memorable performances and a celebration of talent from across the continent.
