Nigerian content creator and musician Carter Efe, real name Oderhohwo Efe, has officially become Africa’s most-followed Twitch streamer following a high-profile livestream featuring Afrobeats superstar Davido.
Efe surpassed fellow Nigerian creator Adesokan Emmanuel, popularly known as Shank Comics, to claim the continental record.
The dramatic growth followed Efe’s livestream with Davido on Wednesday, which attracted massive attention and a surge in followers. Metrics showed Efe now has over 405,000 followers on Twitch, while Shank Comics, who previously held the record, has around 233,000 followers as of Thursday.
Efe’s follower count jumped from approximately 322,000 earlier in the week, marking a gain of roughly 160,000 followers within four days—a spike directly attributed to the Davido collaboration.
The livestream also produced other milestones. Davido reportedly set a new record for the most-watched Twitch livestream in Africa, drawing about 83,000 viewers, and became the first African streamer to surpass 20,000 subscribers on the platform.
During the session, Davido connected Efe with several high-profile figures, including his wife and nightlife entrepreneur Cubana Chief Priest. He also called out Twitch CEO Dan Clancy and made a surprise video call to Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, much to the delight of viewers.
The stream took an unexpected turn when fellow content creator Enzo appeared and humorously challenged Efe to an impromptu boxing match to “prove” his loyalty to Davido’s 30BG fan base, a moment that quickly went viral across social media.
