Cattle Dispute Leads to Death of 20-Year-Old in Oyo, Seven Arrested

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested seven individuals in connection with the killing of 20-year-old Seidu Amisu in Atisbo Local Government Area, following a dispute over cattle rearing that escalated into violence.

The incident occurred at the Budo Fatti area of Ofiki Village and was reported at the Ago-Are Police Division. Police investigations indicate that the altercation involved Umaru Saidu (40) and Umaru Gambo (37), who engaged the victim in a disagreement over cattle.

According to DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the Police Public Relations Officer, the argument turned physical, with Umaru Gambo allegedly striking Seidu Amisu to death using a stick.

“The disagreement escalated into a physical struggle, during which Umaru Gambo allegedly beat Seidu Amisu to death,” DSP Olayinka said.

In an attempt to conceal the crime, the suspects reportedly sought help from Umar Abubakar, Usman Seidu, Muhammed Aliu, and Musa Abubakar, who assisted in secretly burying the victim.

Acting on “credible intelligence,” the Divisional Police Officer at Ago-Are launched an investigation that led to the arrest of all seven suspects, who are now in custody and have made confessional statements.

CP Femi Haruna, Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Homicide Section, for further investigation. He emphasized the command’s zero tolerance for violent crimes, assuring the public that perpetrators will be dealt with according to the law.

“The Oyo State Police Command remains resolute in preventing violent crimes and ensuring that perpetrators are decisively brought to justice,” CP Haruna stated, urging residents to provide timely and credible information to support security efforts.
