Fresh CCTV footage from Old Delhi has revealed the terrifying moments that followed the explosion of a Hyundai i20 near the Red Fort on Monday evening, capturing crowds scrambling for safety as shock and confusion rippled across one of the city’s busiest zones. The blast, which occurred around the Red Fort metro station, killed at least eight people and injured more than twenty.

The video, shared widely on social media and released by news agency PTI, shows people sprinting away from the site seconds after the explosion. Faces marked by fear, they scatter across the road, abandoning vehicles and belongings in an instinctive rush to escape. The footage underscores the intensity of the blast and the immediate panic among commuters and pedestrians gathered in the area during peak evening traffic.

Former Owners of the Exploded Vehicle Detained

Delhi Police have detained two individuals in connection with the incident—Salman and Devender—both of whom previously owned the Hyundai i20 that blew up. Officials are tracing the vehicle’s complete ownership history as one of the first steps in the wider investigation. The car, which had changed hands multiple times in recent months, is now at the centre of forensic examination to determine what triggered the explosion.

Probe Underway; Terror Angle Not Ruled Out

Union home minister Amit Shah stated that all possible angles are being examined, emphasising that no assumptions will be made until investigators complete a thorough review. While officers have not yet confirmed a terror link, the high-intensity nature of the blast and its location near a historic national monument have put security agencies on alert.

Shah noted that the explosion took place when the car was at the Subhash Marg traffic signal, and assured the public that findings will be made available as soon as the probe advances.

Teams from Delhi Police, the Special Cell, and central agencies are reviewing multiple CCTV recordings, analysing blast patterns, and questioning individuals linked to the vehicle. A detailed forensic analysis is expected to shed further light on whether the blast was accidental, mechanical, or caused by an improvised explosive device.

The incident has led to heightened security measures across central Delhi, including additional force deployment around Red Fort, Chandni Chowk, and nearby metro stations, as investigators work to reconstruct the events leading up to the explosion.
