Patna: Following the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) emphatic victory in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed party workers and supporters with a speech that combined celebration with pointed political messaging. The NDA’s landslide win, with the Bharatiya Janata Party emerging as the single largest party in the state, marked a significant setback for the RJD-Congress-led Mahagathbandhan, which suffered a disappointing defeat.
In his address, Modi targeted the opposition parties, especially the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress, highlighting what he described as their failures in governance and disrespect toward cultural sentiments. He referenced “Chhathi Maiya,” the revered goddess in Bihar, accusing the opposition of mocking religious sentiments by labeling the festival “a drama.” “Till date, Congress and RJD have not apologised to Chhathi Maiya. The people of Bihar will never forget this. Bihar’s pride and honour, this is our priority,” Modi said, emphasizing the NDA’s alignment with the people’s cultural values.
The prime minister also invoked phrases like ‘jungle raj’ and ‘katta sarkar’ to underline his critique of past administrations, particularly the RJD. “When I used to speak about Jungle Raj and Katta Sarkar in Bihar elections, the RJD party raised no objections. But it hurt the people of Congress. Today, I want to reiterate that Katta Sarkar will never return to Bihar,” Modi declared, asserting the NDA’s mandate to provide stable governance in the state.
Modi celebrated the scale and decisiveness of the NDA’s victory, saying, “This resounding victory, this unbreakable faith… Bihar ke logon ne garda uda diya,” which translates to “the people of Bihar have blown everyone away.” He highlighted that the public’s faith in the NDA reflected not only political support but also confidence in the party’s governance model.
Addressing the electorate’s concerns about welfare and development, Modi referred to the NDA’s “MY formula,” which stands for Mahila (women) and Youth. “There is an old saying, ‘Loha Lohe Ko Katta Hai’. In response to the appeasement politics of some parties in Bihar, we presented our own ‘MY’ formula, which stands for ‘Mahila’ and ‘Youth’,” he said, stressing the NDA’s focus on empowering women and youth as key stakeholders in Bihar’s progress.
The prime minister also praised the Election Commission of India for ensuring a transparent electoral process. “This election has further strengthened the public’s trust in the Election Commission of India. The consistently high voter turnout over the past few years, the increased turnout by the deprived and the exploited, is a significant achievement for the Election Commission,” Modi observed, noting that Bihar’s electorate had delivered its verdict decisively and democratically.
Emphasizing the NDA’s commitment to public service, Modi added, “We are the servants of the people. We continue to make people happy with our hard work, and we have won the hearts of the people. And that is why the entire Bihar has said ‘Phir ek baar NDA Sarkar’…” He framed the victory as a validation of the NDA’s governance record and its connection with the people across the state.
Modi concluded by acknowledging the scale of the mandate received by the NDA in Bihar, describing it as the strongest electoral endorsement since 2010. “After 2010, Bihar has delivered its strongest mandate to the NDA. I wholeheartedly thank the people of Bihar for their support on behalf of all the parties within the NDA,” he said, underlining the alliance’s unity and the broad-based support it had secured.
The speech, while celebratory, also reinforced Modi’s political messaging ahead of upcoming state and national-level elections. By highlighting cultural pride, stable governance, and targeted welfare initiatives, the prime minister sought to consolidate the NDA’s political position while casting the Congress and RJD as disconnected from the electorate’s aspirations.
Key points from Modi’s speech included:
- No return of Katta Sarkar: Modi emphasized that the era of misgovernance associated with the RJD would not return.
- Cultural respect: Modi criticized Congress and RJD for not apologizing for disrespecting Chhathi Maiya.
- Resounding mandate: The prime minister described the victory as overwhelming, with voters decisively backing the NDA.
- Focus on women and youth: The NDA’s “MY formula” was presented as a development-centric alternative to appeasement politics.
- Election Commission praise: Modi lauded the high voter turnout and fair conduct of elections, highlighting the democratic process.
- Commitment to public service: Modi stressed the NDA’s role as a servant of the people and the government’s focus on welfare.
- Acknowledgment of the NDA coalition: The prime minister thanked all parties within the NDA for the unified mandate.
Modi’s speech combined elements of celebration, political critique, and cultural symbolism, reflecting the party’s strategy to consolidate its position in Bihar while sending a clear message to its opponents. The remarks, especially on Chhathi Maiya and ‘katta sarkar’, resonated with voters who view governance, law and order, and cultural respect as central to Bihar’s political narrative.
