Chirag Paswan Confirms Bihar NDA Government Formation Blueprint to Be Ready Soon

Patna: Following the sweeping victory of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar, attention has now turned to the formation of the state government. With the tenure of the current Bihar Legislative Assembly ending on November 22, the BJP and Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) are gearing up to form the next administration, raising questions about the chief ministerial oath and the allocation of cabinet berths among alliance partners.

The NDA recorded a resounding win in the recent assembly polls, securing 202 out of 243 seats. This marks only the second time the alliance has crossed the 200-seat threshold in Bihar, following its 206-seat victory in the 2010 elections. The outcome has left the state’s political leaders focused on strategic planning for the government formation process.

Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) [LJP(RV)] chief Chirag Paswan, whose party won 19 seats as part of the NDA coalition, confirmed that discussions among the alliance partners are underway and that the next government will be formed before November 22. Paswan, who met Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar at his residence on Saturday, described the interaction as “cordial and constructive.”

Speaking to the media, Paswan said, “I will also speak with senior Union Ministers, and the blueprint will be ready by today or tomorrow. We have to form the government before 22nd November. It will be done.” He added that decisions regarding the government formation would be taken “soon,” emphasizing that “a sense of clarity” would emerge once the blueprint is finalized.

During the meeting, Paswan congratulated Nitish Kumar on the NDA’s massive victory. He highlighted the CM’s appreciation for all alliance parties and criticized the opposition for spreading what he termed “false narratives” regarding the LJP(RV) and JD(U) in the lead-up to the elections.

Meanwhile, Rashtriya Lok Morcha leader Upendra Kushwaha provided further insights into the timeline, stating that the government formation process would become clear in the “next two to four days,” urging patience from the public.

Sources familiar with the matter said the NDA plans to begin the formal process of government formation in Bihar within the next two to three days, once the newly elected MLAs, many of whom are still in their constituencies, arrive in Patna. Alliance partners have reportedly already begun holding separate meetings with their legislators to coordinate strategies and ministerial allocations.

The first official step will involve Nitish Kumar meeting Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan to tender his resignation and to discuss the date for the swearing-in ceremony of the new government. The oath-taking ceremony is expected to be a grand event, reflecting the scale of the NDA’s mandate.

The election results demonstrated a clear mandate for the NDA, with the BJP emerging as the single-largest party with 89 seats, while Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) made a significant comeback, securing 85 seats. The LJP(RV) under Chirag Paswan won 19 seats, the Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) claimed five seats, and the Rashtriya Lok Morcha secured four.

With the NDA holding an overwhelming majority of 202 seats, the alliance is well-positioned to implement its policy and developmental agenda for Bihar over the next five years. The coming days will see intensive consultations among the coalition partners to finalize cabinet portfolios, leadership positions, and key administrative responsibilities.

Chirag Paswan’s statements underscore the urgency and coordination required to form a stable government before the current assembly’s tenure expires. The NDA’s strong electoral performance has placed a responsibility on the alliance to deliver governance at a larger scale, and the blueprint being prepared will set the tone for the next term in Bihar’s political landscape.

As the process unfolds, all eyes remain on Patna, with the swearing-in ceremony expected to mark the beginning of Nitish Kumar’s record tenth term as Bihar’s chief minister, supported by a broad coalition within the NDA.
