COAS Inaugurates Welfare and Operational Projects at Lagbaja Cantonment

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, yesterday inaugurated a series of welfare and operational enhancement projects at the Lt-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja Cantonment in Ikeja, Lagos. This initiative aims to improve the welfare of personnel and bolster the operational readiness of the Nigerian Army.

The projects were inaugurated during Lt.-Gen. Shaibu’s two-day official visit to various formations and units within the 81 Division’s Area of Responsibility.

According to Colonel Apollonia Anele, Army spokesperson, the completed projects include:

  • A refurbished basketball court sponsored by First Bank.
  • A remodelled Quarter Guard at the 9 Brigade Headquarters, funded by Air Peace Airlines.
  • A new 9 Brigade Headquarters Complex, executed under the leadership of the former Brigade Commander, Brig.-Gen. Mathew Oyekola.

In a symbolic gesture, General Shaibu also planted a tree at the barracks, emphasizing the Army’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

During the event, Lt.-Gen. Shaibu commended the corporate partners for their support and called for continued collaboration in improving barracks’ facilities and personnel welfare.

The initiative is part of the ongoing efforts to enhance the Army’s readiness, providing both functional infrastructure and improved living conditions for its personnel.
