Colleen Hoover’s Alleged Texts Reveal Frustration
Newly revealed court documents suggest that bestselling author and It Ends With Us executive producer Colleen Hoover felt caught in the middle of a legal and professional dispute between Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively. According to exhibits filed by the Wayfarer co-defendants on November 10, 2025, Hoover allegedly texted Baldoni in August 2024 that she felt “forced” to choose sides in the ongoing conflict over the film adaptation of her hit novel.
In one message, Hoover allegedly wrote:
“It just feels like I’m on an island here. I know things took an awful turn, and I felt forced to choose when I did not want to. The back and forth articles from both camps is just so upsetting and ridiculous. It’s making everyone working on this movie look immature.”
She reportedly expressed that the situation had been stressful long before she had any direct contact with Lively.
Alleged Disappointment in Baldoni’s Actions
Hoover allegedly conveyed to Baldoni that she had been personally disappointed by his conduct on multiple occasions, writing:
“I have been disappointed personally by your actions many times. I appreciate that you haven’t directly said anything negative, that’s how it should be. But you are grown men with a platform. You know how to use it to protect your image. Please don’t continue to use it to harm me or mine. That’s all I’m asking.”
These alleged communications were shared by Baldoni with his PR team and are now part of the ongoing legal filings. PEOPLE reached out to Hoover’s representatives for comment.
Background of the Legal Dispute
The conflict between Lively and Baldoni centers on allegations of sexual harassment, retaliation, and defamation related to the production of It Ends With Us. Lively, 38, is seeking over $160 million in damages, claiming Baldoni, 41, and other co-defendants orchestrated a smear campaign against her. Baldoni has denied the allegations and previously filed a $400 million countersuit, which has since been dismissed by the judge.
Hoover was deposed earlier this year as part of the litigation, which is scheduled to go to trial in New York in March 2026.
Colleen Hoover’s Public Support for Blake Lively
Despite the dispute, Hoover publicly voiced support for Lively in December 2024. The author posted on Instagram that Lively had “been nothing but honest, kind, supportive and patient since the day we met. Thank you for being exactly the human that you are. Never change. Never wilt.”
The timing of these statements reflects Hoover’s position as both the original author and an executive producer of the film, navigating a complex web of professional and personal dynamics in Hollywood.
Ongoing Legal Developments
On November 13, 2025, Baldoni and the Wayfarer parties filed a motion for summary judgment with U.S. District Court Judge Lewis J. Liman, asking for a ruling in their favor without a trial. A decision from Judge Liman is still pending.
Meanwhile, Hoover’s first novel since her 2022 sequel It Starts With Us, titled Woman Down, is set to release in January 2026. The book’s plot reportedly centers on a once-celebrated author grappling with a viral backlash over a film adaptation, echoing themes similar to Hoover’s real-life experiences during the ongoing legal battle.
The Broader Context
This unfolding legal drama highlights the pressures facing authors, producers, and actors when high-profile literary adaptations collide with Hollywood disputes. Hoover’s alleged texts underscore the personal toll of navigating conflicts between major industry figures while protecting both creative integrity and professional relationships.
