Lucknow, November 28, 2025 — President Droupadi Murmu emphasized on Friday that the spirit of cooperation is as essential as competition for the progress of the nation and society, addressing the valedictory ceremony of the diamond jubilee celebrations of Bharat Scouts and Guides at its 19th National Jamboree in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
In her address, President Murmu highlighted the pivotal role of Bharat Scouts and Guides in shaping the youth of the country, inspiring them to actively contribute to nation-building. “The motto of Scouts and Guides is – Be Prepared. It means that you should always be ready to face all the challenges that come in the future. You must develop within yourself that capacity so that, when the time comes, any challenge can be faced without fear, with determination and self-confidence,” she said.
She reiterated that the organization has long been a source of guidance for India’s youth, fostering discipline, resilience, and a sense of civic responsibility. The President pointed out that youth are not only the architects of India’s future but also the custodians of its cultural and civilizational heritage. “A strong and sensitive individual can empower and sensitise many others, just like a lamp lights several other lamps,” she added.
Drawing attention to India’s long-term development goals, President Murmu spoke about the vision of achieving a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047. She urged young people, who make up 65% of the population under the age of 35, to take determined and concerted steps toward realizing this vision. “This goal is possible only if our youth commit themselves fully and work with purpose, discipline, and dedication,” she said.
The President expressed satisfaction at the learning opportunities provided by the National Jamboree, which brought together 35,000 Scouts and Guides from across India and abroad. She noted that the various competitions and activities not only imparted new skills but also fostered teamwork, camaraderie, and perseverance among participants. “I am happy to know that today there are more than 6.3 million Scouts and Guides in India. The Bharat Scouts and Guides is one of the largest Scouts and Guides organisations in the world,” Murmu remarked, underlining the scale and impact of the organization.
The event marked the first National Jamboree held in Uttar Pradesh in 61 years. Governor Anandiben Patel praised the jamboree for embodying the spirit of a self-reliant, indigenous, clean, and developed India. She urged the Scouts and Guides to apply the lessons learned at the jamboree and serve as agents of positive change in their communities.
President Murmu’s address underscored the need to balance personal ambition with social responsibility, highlighting that competition should be complemented by cooperation to foster collective growth. By equipping young Indians with values of preparedness, empathy, and teamwork, the Bharat Scouts and Guides continues to play an essential role in nation-building, ensuring that the youth are ready to meet future challenges with confidence and integrity.
