The Senior Magistrate’s Court at Muhammadu Buhari International Market, Mararaba, Nasarawa State, has reserved ruling on whether it has jurisdiction over human rights lawyer Abdul Mahmud’s case and on the potential revocation of his bail. The decision is expected on December 18, 2025.
Mahmud and co-defendant Emmanuel Ejeh challenged the court’s jurisdiction. The case arises from allegations that Mahmud wrote a petition against DCP Amabua Muhammed, which he denies, claiming mistaken identity. His lawyer, Onema Edoja, argued that the police signal presented was merely internal administrative communication and not evidence.
Earlier, Magistrate Zulaihat Yusuf had threatened to revoke bail after the prosecution presented the signal but later stepped down that threat. Mahmud was arrested in June 2023 after defending a civilian allegedly intimidated by ACP Amabua in Karu, Nasarawa State.
The case has drawn attention to alleged abuses by ACP Amabua, who was also under investigation for property-related matters by the Code of Conduct Bureau.
