Cross River Lawmaker Presents N48m Gifts, Shares Mid-Term Report

Victor Abang, member of the House of Representatives for Boki–Ikom Federal Constituency in Cross River State, has presented his mid-term legislative report to constituents and distributed yuletide gifts worth N48 million.

During town hall meetings and briefings, Abang explained that the exercise aimed to promote transparency, accountability, and public awareness, allowing constituents to assess his performance while addressing misinformation on social media. He emphasized that governance sometimes differs from campaign promises.

Highlighting his achievements, Abang noted the expansion of telecom coverage to rural communities, connecting 35 villages to communication masts, thereby boosting economic activity and connectivity.

On national issues, he cited his sponsorship of a motion on the Nigeria–Cameroon boundary dispute on July 5, 2023. The motion, supported in the House, led to the formation of an ad hoc committee and prevented potential territorial loss of over 10,000 hectares, including parts of Biajua and Danare communities. Abang warned that the exercise had ignored colonial boundary markers, such as Pillar 113A, which could have caused significant land loss.

In the health sector, he facilitated the donation of medical equipment worth over N300 million to the Primary Health Centre in Abo Ebam and provided support to the Federal Medical Centre in the constituency.

Abang also sponsored the National Park Service Amendment Bill to establish the Okwangwo National Park Unit, aimed at boosting conservation, creating jobs, and promoting eco-tourism for host communities. Discussions are ongoing with national and international partners to develop supporting infrastructure, including access roads to the park.

The lawmaker presented a compendium of his legislative and constituency achievements, titled The Banjuere, covering projects such as a mini-stadium, telecommunications expansion, and health interventions.

As part of his commitment to sharing democratic dividends and easing holiday pressures, Abang distributed Christmas gifts worth N48 million to constituents. He assured the people that more bills, motions, and constituency-focused projects are in the pipeline.
