A tragic accident in Noida claimed the life of a cyclist after he was struck by a speeding BMW SUV in Sector 31 on Monday night. The incident occurred in Nithari around 11 pm, police said.
According to authorities, the driver and owner of the vehicle, identified as Mankul Mahajan, has been taken into custody on suspicion of drunk driving. A case has been registered, and police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Visuals from the accident site show the bicycle lying in shambles while the front end of the BMW was heavily damaged, with parts scattered across the road. Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with the vehicle appearing to have struck the cyclist at high speed.
The incident comes amid heightened concerns over road safety in the region. Police have stated that preliminary findings are being examined, including the speed of the vehicle at the time of the collision.
This accident follows a similar fatal incident in October in Ghaziabad’s Indirapuram area, when a six-year-old boy was run over by an SUV while attending a roadside bhandara (community feast). That driver, a 40-year-old executive employed at a Noida-based IT firm, was apprehended after residents intervened.
Authorities are urging commuters to exercise caution on busy roads and comply with traffic regulations, highlighting the recurring risks of speeding and negligent driving in residential and high-traffic areas.
