DecorExpo 2025 kicks off in Lagos, stakeholders push for policies to boost textile growth

Lagos is buzzing as the 5th International Furniture, Home Textile and Household Exhibition (DecorExpo 2025) officially launched on November 19 at the Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island. The three-day event provides a key platform for stakeholders in the furniture and textile sectors to exchange ideas, strengthen partnerships, and explore opportunities between Nigeria and Turkiye.

A major focus of this year’s expo is advocating for policy reforms to drive the growth of Nigeria’s textile industry.

At the opening ceremony, industry leaders called on governments at all levels to implement measures that would support the sector’s expansion. Hon. Martins Arebun, President of the Mindshift Empowerment and Employment Initiative (MEEI), highlighted DecorExpo 2025 as a hub for commercial collaboration and cultural exchange.

“Nigeria, with its youthful population and growing purchasing power, is strategically positioned to access the broader African market. Our bilateral trade with Turkiye—over US$504 million in exports and US$394 million in imports in 2024—underscores a partnership that benefits both nations,” Arebun said.

He emphasized that the decor sector is a key driver of this relationship, creating opportunities across textiles, urban development, and related industries. He also stressed the need for effective harnessing of foreign direct investment to position Nigeria as West Africa’s production hub.

Echoing this sentiment, Muhammed Ali Aras, Exhibition Director, noted that DecorExpo 2025 will offer workshops, discussions, and networking sessions designed to drive innovation and showcase local craftsmanship.

Gabriel Idahosa, President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, pointed out that the textile market already provides a strong foundation for Nigerian-Turkiye trade and highlighted the importance of such events in broadening horizons and creating new opportunities in the furniture sector.

Beyond economic impact, textiles serve as a reflection of Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage. Dr. Daniel Deji Ayodele, co-host and founder of MEEI, emphasized how DecorExpo allows artisans to showcase pieces that celebrate Nigerian identity, creativity, and cultural pride.

As the exhibition continues, stakeholders remain committed to shaping a future marked by sustainable growth, job creation, and stronger international partnerships. With collaborative efforts and effective policies, DecorExpo 2025 aims to pave the way for a thriving furniture and textile industry in Nigeria.
