Nigeria’s Defence Minister, Gen. Christopher Musa (Rtd), has addressed questions about why no physical remains of terrorists were recovered following recent United States airstrikes in the country. He attributed this to the nature of the advanced weapons used in the operation.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time, Musa explained that Tomahawk missiles were deployed against the terrorists, leaving no visible traces.
“They wouldn’t know, because the way they were neutralised, you wouldn’t see anything. It’s a new kind of weapon that was used, the Tomahawks,” he said.
On reports that some Tomahawk missiles failed to explode, the minister clarified that such outcomes were part of military tactics designed to deceive adversaries.
“That is all part of the tactics. In conflict attack, you deceive your enemy. Those are all part of it,” Musa stated.
He reassured Nigerians that the operations have been effective and promised further successes:
“At least Nigerians are seeing the results, and they will see more things coming ahead.”
Musa also revealed that while the US operation was ongoing, Nigerian forces were simultaneously conducting coordinated attacks on other terrorist targets, with significant achievements already recorded this month.
“As we speak, the Nigerian Air Force, Navy, and Army were also neutralising a lot of other areas. In fact, from within January, a lot has been achieved,” he added.
